How do I know whether or not I need a Portugal Schengen visa?
The answer to this question can only be given with your nationality. If Portugal or other Schengen countries make it mandatory for a nation to get a visa, then you will need to apply for one.
If you have a UK passport, then you don’t need a Schengen visa, but in case you are from another nationality, then find out whether or not your nationality needs a Portugal Schengen visa.
Can I apply for my Portugal Schengen visa at the London consulate?
You can only apply for your Schengen visa at the Portuguese consulate if you are a legal resident of the UK. For this, you will need to be a resident of the UK for at least 3 months. In case you are living in the UK with another visa, then you will need to head back to your own country to apply for your Portugal Schengen visa.

How can I book my appointment with the Portuguese consulate?
For this, you will need to first visit the official consulate website of Portugal in London.
The page will mostly be in Portuguese. But to book your appointment with the consulate, you will not really need to read Portuguese. However, if you want to understand all the details, then we suggest that you open the page on a browser that gives you the option of translating the page.
Once you are on the page, click on “Visa“.
The page gives you the option of booking your visa appointment with an outsourced company.
Scroll down to find the option to schedule your appointment with the consulate on the right-hand side.
Read the instructions given on this page carefully before you proceed. After you scroll down, you can see some links given on the page to book appointments with consulates located in different cities in the country. Click on the link next to “London“.
On this page, click on “New User?” to start booking a new visa appointment.
Fill in the form and click on “Submit” to start booking your appointment. Follow the instructions given to you on the page to complete your booking. The VFS Global portal will also ask you to fill in your visa application form. But in case it doesn’t, you can also fill in your visa application form here and print it out for your interview with the Portuguese consulate.
What happens on the day of my interview with the Portuguese consulate?
You will need to reach the consulate on time to ensure that they are able to process your visa. If you are more than 10 minutes late, then the consulate may refuse to process your visa.
You will need to submit all the documents required for your visa and the consulate will also collect your biometric data. Remember that your visa will not be approved unless you have provided your biometric data, so, ensure that you don’t have any temporary discolouration of your skin (Mehendi) to properly enter your data into the consulate’s system.

Photographs: You need to carry at least 3 passport-sized photographs that are coloured. They need to have a clear front face view and a light background. Check the rules for photo specifications here.
Passport: It should be valid, original, and should have at least 2 empty pages. The validity of the passport should be at least 3 months from the day of your return.
Residence permit: This proves that you are a legal resident of the UK. It should also be original and valid with a validity of at least 3 months from the date of your return.
Travel cover letter: You will need to mention the purpose of travelling to Portugal in this along with your travel itinerary and hotel bookings. You can also mention a list of all the documents you will be providing to the consulate along with your visa application.
Proof of travel: You will need to provide your flight itinerary for this. This is to prove that you are definitely travelling to Portugal and not anywhere else. It can also verify your main destination in the Schengen countries.

France Consulate
Your travel itinerary : you MUST BOOK your airline ticket but do not purchase until the visa has been approved.
